15-Unit String of Self Storage Thefts Hits Nevada

Mia Iverson | August 17, 2010 @ 11:12 AM

A string of self storage theft has hit the Shenandoah county of Nevada. Within five days, 15 units of three facilities have been broken into. One facility reported four units broken into with only one unit reporting stolen goods, while another, a few days later, had another four units broken into with no stolen items reported missing. In yet another facility, however, one unit owner reported  $250,000 worth of comic books missing among other valuable items. Local authorities believe the multiple break-ins are connected. Amidst the investigation, sound advice was given to self storage renters:
  • Keep an inventory of what’s in your storage unit. You may not realize an item is missing until it’s too late.
  • Keep a record of serial numbers for your more valuable items.
  • When looking for a self storage facility, consider if the facility is equipped with security cameras. Of the three facilities hit, only one had security cameras.
