Storage Company Fun Through the Slow Season

Nadine Long | November 21, 2011 @ 2:14 PM

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and StorageMart in Columbia, Mo. decided to try a fun experiment in honor of the holiday. The company wanted to see how much dry and canned Thanksgiving food would fit in a 5x5 storage unit. A crew of employees spent three hours filling up the unit with 1,500 pounds of food. The filled unit held 120 cans of Ocean Spray cranberry juice, 63 pounds of russet potatoes, 216 bags of stuffing, 192 cans of chicken broth, 192 cans of corn, 14 boxes of sweet potato casserole, 24 large boxes of minute rice and 384 cans of Swanson chicken broth. After the stunt, StorageMart donated the contents of the unit to The Food Bank, which will send food to 32 counties throughout Missouri. Check out the video the team put together below. A Lock-It Self Storage in Pineville and Fort Mill, S.C. has found an original, funny way to connect with its community. Before, the sign at the entrance of A Lock-It advertised specials and  moving/storage equipment. Now, the father-and-son owners use the signs to pump up Carolina Panthers fans during football season. When the Panthers beat out the Minnesota Vikings, A Lock-It's sign read "Nothing to ponder, Panthers win number 3," a reference to Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder. One of the owners, Mitch Clark, said that people have called in with suggestions for the sign, and some businesses have contacted him to inquire about renting the space, which is right next to a busy road. He's even gained storage customers because of the signs, citing a customer who came in to rent space because of a sign that disparaged Brett Favre. Whether people driving by agree with his signs or not, Clark is having fun and gaining the attention of his community through the ancient art of wordplay.
