Storage Tips for Extremely Hot Weather
Spending time in hot weather can be exhausting depending on just how high the temperature gets, the humidity, and whether you’re able to spend much time in the shade. Sometimes, it’s nice just to go out on the porch or under a tree with a good book and a cold drink and relax.
What if you need to put things into your storage unit during extremely hot weather, or need to retrieve things to bring home, like maybe your ice cream maker or some of your summer clothes?

When moving heavy items from one place to another on a hot day, you’ll want to make sure your body doesn’t get overwhelmed. These tips will help whether you’re moving items to or from your vehicle:

Stay hydrated. As humans, our sense of thirst is imperfect. We don’t start to feel thirsty until we’re already a bit dehydrated. So, always have drinking water with you, and as soon as you feel a bit thirsty take a drink.

Wear light colored clothing that breathes, preferably made from cotton.

Don’t forget the sunscreen! The lighter your skin, the higher sun protection factor (SPF) you’ll need.

Lift carefully with your legs, not your back. Also, avoid packing your boxes too heavy. If you have large items, like couches or tables, you’ll need a helper. You may also want to use living straps for some items, like washers and dryers. Of course, hand trucks are also very helpful, particularly for moving stacks of heavy boxes.

If you feel at all tired or dizzy, take a break in the shade.

We cannot stress enough how important getting a unit with climate control is when the weather is extremely hot. Hot weather can also be humid, and the combination can dampen your belongings and create an environment perfect for mold and mildew to grow.
A climate controlled unit will keep the temperature and humidity at safe levels for your belongings.
Make sure items are dry when going in. Before you store items in your climate controlled unit, make sure they are dry. The unit will keep humidity at ideal levels, but you still don’t want to risk mold and mildew by introducing moisture to your storage unit.
